Tom does not need friends he has $250m he can buy everything.

But... MySpace was certainly useful for me when we were launching Jackdaw4 ( http://www.myspace.com/jackdaw4 ) last year. Got a lot of contacts through there, gave people chance to hear some songs without burning our bandwidth, and helped us sell CDs. The annoying thing is just weeding out the "friend collectors" from the people that are interested in the music.

MySpace can be cool to keep in touch with people or even make new friends even though I hate it sometimes... and yeah, that can be a useful promotional tool for bands but it's a pity to see that some bands don't even have their own real website anymore but only a MySpace page...
It also seems like some bands are just "MySpace bands", I mean, they must spend their days to send friend requests to have huge friend lists but when you look at their profile you realize that they hardly play any shows... isn't a rock'n'roll band supposed to get in a van, play shows and release records?
Anyway, Carl, I'm going to send you a request

MySpace can fuck off. It's great for the millions
of lazy Internet conformists - who waste their
life leaving lazy-sounding messages for each
other - and who can't be arsed learning HTML,
but it's also aesthetically vapid and junked up
to its feathery hilt. Take that vampire
fart for starters: almost everything he has to
say, show, or do, is shot (in the jizz sense)
all over the front page. MySpace users shouldn't
have access to HTML because they're all shit at
it. Although, what is rather amusing about the
vampire man, is that, the further down the page
you scroll, the balder he gets. It's nice MySpace
hosts 3 or 4 songs, with a few stats, but, so
what? How difficult is it to FTP an mp3 to one's
own dotcom? ... Quite difficult, actually, if
you're name's Hunter, but that's another story.

Convenience store culture at its most disappointedly
tedious and turgid.

Pfe! MySpace: You can stuff it rrrright up your
jacksie!

Ya threw me there, as you look nothing like I was expecting.

Markii, I knew what you meant, but yeah...it kind of came across...ummm...yeah...

D., so, you don't have a page is what you're saying??? Yeah, the place sucks, but I'll use it to get in touch with certain bands that have chosen to not have actual sites. Bastards.

I set up two: one for Ratpack and one for myself/
solo stuff, so I speak from a cultural experience,
living with the thing everyday etc.

I found dealing with the endless minutiae of
promo messages, 4 word 'thanx for adding me'
msgs, zero critical feedback (far too time
time consuming, thinking is, of course) of
anything of worth on the pages, airbrushed
box bedroom Internet egos etc., a really pain
in the jacksie... I kept looking out of the
window and wondering why I wasn't enjoying life.
